Today is the day. I have waited almost an entire year for this day. And frankly, I have no idea what to expect.
You... shall... not... pass! Unless you have a Golden Ticket!
Having just gotten into craft beer a little more than a year ago, one of the breweries in the area I visited was 3 Floyds. I fell in love. The creativity in the brews was amazing yet still highly drinkable. Add to this their amazing gourmet brew pub, and I felt fortunate to live near such a place.
It was from their website that I learned of Dark Lord Day. (Cue ominous music!) Apparently, 3 Floyds brews a Russian Imperial Stout that is one of the highest ranked beers in the world. Dark Lord Imperial Stout is the Holy Grail of beers in the United States. The catch? It’s only sold one day a year, at the brewery.
People come from miles around to meet in Munster, Indiana for Dark Lord Day, a day of tasting, live music, and BBQ. Oh yes, and to buy some bottles of Dark Lord.
The desire for this brew is so strong, that 3 Floyds sells tickets (known as Golden Tickets) online for the opportunity to buy the beer! I was glued to my computer when tickets went online, and I score a pair. The ticket allows me to purchase up to four bottles of this highly ranked, and highly coveted, brew.
So, here it is, April 30th… and I am so excited, but I won’t lie, nervous as well. What to expect? What to do? What to drink first? Come with me on this journey! It begins now!
